Jamie Vandermoer, photographer
For 12 years I was a sports and entertainment photographer. My specialty became capturing the action as it happened. Whether it was the grace of a golfer’s swing or the lightning-fast action of a martial arts tournament or even the wild antics of rock bands, I trained my eye to watch for “the moment.” It was my stock in trade.
A few years ago a friend asked me to photograph his wedding. He liked candid shots and knew I’d be the one to capture those moments that really show off the emotion of the day.
Soon I was doing weddings for more friends, their friends, and I found myself just as busy with weddings as anything else.
It’s been my pleasure to capture the joy of each couple’s special day and I pride myself in providing top quality work at an affordable price.
I could list my photography credits (like being five-time Sport Karate Photojournalist of the Year), or the magazines I’ve been in (like Golfweek) or the travel locations I’ve been asked to shoot (like the Turks and Caicos Islands) but that would seem like bragging. ;-)
I’d rather you just click HERE and check out my portfolio. I think it will speak for itself.
FAQs:
Why are your prices lower?
I’m in the photography business, not the printing business. When you hire me I take unlimited photos as per the package, give you all the digitial hi-res JPEG files on a disc. That way you have all the digital files so you can make as many copies and distribute them however you like. You’re not paying for extras you don’t want and you’re not paying inflated prices for reprints after the wedding.
Is everything digital?
Yes. I shoot entirely in digital. With every package you get all the digital files so you can make your own copies.
What is the advantage of digital?
There are many advantages.
Firstly, in my opinion digital gives a clearer, more vibrant image.
Secondly, photos can be improved digitally in ways they can’t with film. It’s easy to correct color casts, flaws, even cover up blemishes. I can convert color to black and white, and incorporate special effects. That’s very difficult to do with film.
From a client ’s standpoint digital is easy. You can store your files on your computer, make copies of the disc, e-mail your favorite photos to friends and relatives, even print your own photos on your home computer. (You can upload your photos to places like Wal Mart, Costco or Future Shop and have them developed for you. It’s very easy.) Or you can just take the disc in to any photo developer and have them print shots for you.
With just prints you can't put your photos on sites like Facebook. With digital images you can. You can make your own scrapbook, post them to your blog or personal website.
Best of all, you can make backup copies of the files. You can’t make backup negatives.
How do you work?
This is your day. I’m there to capture the shots you want. I have standard shots that I like to take and always take posed portrait shots of the bride, groom, bridal party and family/friends but I’m very easy going about what you want. I have no problem with other friends/family taking photos at the same time and I pride myself in making everyone comfortable and relaxed. (Hey, I understand not everybody likes having their picture taken.) It’s a hectic day so I like to assure the bride and groom that I’m one thing they don’t have to worry about. Years of sports photography means I’m used to shooting under pressure.
What kind of deposit do you require?
I ask for a 20 per cent deposit.
